The Ministry of the Interior is seeking public comments on a draft government proposal for a new gambling act, a key reform initiative outlined in the Government Programme. Under this proposal, Veikkaus Oy will no longer maintain its monopoly over betting, online slot machines, and casino games. These gambling activities will be opened to competition through a new licensing system.

The proposal was crafted by a working group under the Ministry of the Interior, guided by a political steering group of state secretaries. The consultation period for this proposal ends on August 18, 2024.

Nintendo’s latest earnings report has arrived, and while Switch sales were down dramatically, the console is now even closer to reaching the PS2’s high watermark of an estimated 155 million units sold. Through the quarter that ended on June 30, Switch sales stand at 143.42 million units.

Nintendo sold 2.1 million Switch consoles in the past quarter, which was down significantly from the 3.91 million it sold during the same period last year. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has finished another successful weekend in theaters, going on to achieve a new milestone at the box office. The film has now earned $462 million worldwide, surpassing Pokemon: Detective Pikachu ($450 million) to become the No. 2 highest-grossing video game movie of all time.
